We aim to determine the risk of acute ischemic stroke in patients with severe and non-severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
A literature search was conducted in the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases until October 28, 2020. Studies covering COVID-19's severity classification data and COVID-19 patients with acute ischemic stroke were included. Two independent evaluators extracted data, and the random effects model was used to calculate the risk ratios (RR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) of acute ischemic stroke associated with COVID-19's severity.
A total of 8 studies were included, involving 5266 patients. Among all COVID-19 patients, the total incidence of ischemic stroke was 1.76% (95% CI 0.82-3.01). Severe patients have an increased risk of acute ischemic stroke compared with non-severe patients (RR = 3.53, 95% CI 2.06-6.07, P &lt; 0.0001; I= 12%). This association was also observed when COVID-19's severity was defined by clinical parameters (RR 2.91, 95% CI 1.17-7.26, P = 0.02; I= 29%) and the need for intensive care (RR 4.47, 95% CI 2.40-8.31, P &lt; 0.0001; I= 0%).

Twelve patients with a histologically proven oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) gargled a PARPi-FL solution for 60s (15mL, 100nM, 250nM, 500nM, or 1000nM), followed by gargling a clearing solution for 60s. Fluorescence measurements of the lesion and surrounding oral mucosa were taken before PARPi-FL application, after PARPi-FL application, and after clearing. Blood pressure, oxygen levels, clinical chemistry, and CBC were obtained before and after tracer administration.

Few studies have explored adolescents and young people's perspectives toward PrEP. We conducted 24 group discussions and 60 in-depth interviews with males and females aged 13-24 years in Uganda, Zimbabwe, and South Africa between September 2018 and February 2019. We used the framework approach to generate themes and key concepts for analysis following the social ecological model. Young people expressed a willingness to use PrEP and identified potential barriers and facilitators of PrEP uptake. Barriers included factors at individual (fear of HIV, fear of side effects, and PrEP characteristics), interpersonal (parental influence, absence of a sexual partner), community (peer influence, social stigma), institutional (long waiting times at clinics, attitudes of health workers), and structural (cost of PrEP and mode of administration, accessibility concerns) levels. Facilitators included factors at individual (high HIV risk perception and preventing HIV/desire to remain HIV negative), interpersonal (peer influence, social support and care for PrEP uptake), community (adequate PrEP information and sensitization, evidence of PrEP efficacy and safety), institutional (convenient and responsive services, provision of appropriate and sufficiently resourced services), and structural (access and availability of PrEP, cost of PrEP) levels. The findings indicated that PrEP is an acceptable HIV prevention method. PrEP uptake is linked to personal and environmental factors that need to be considered for successful PrEP roll-out. Multi-level interventions needed to promote PrEP uptake should consider the social and structural drivers and focus on ways that can inspire PrEP uptake and limit the barriers.Although the fresh frozen (FF) cadaver is preferred for surgical applications, it is limited due to short usage time, unsuitable for reuse and the risk of infection. Due to its limited use, FF cadavers, which are covered by import in countries with insufficient body donation cause low-cost effectiveness. With the increase of real human tissue specimen necessities for surgical training, long-term preservation of the cadavers is crucial due to changes in mechanical properties. Therefore, studies on embalming solutions have increased in recent years.
We quantify the biomechanical properties of human parietal bones preserved via modified larssen solution (MLS) and compare the results with the specimens preserved as FF and fixed with 10% formalin-based solution (F10). The rectangular samples of 24 parietal bones of male individuals were resected from MLS-embalmed, F10-embalmed and FF cadavers to form three groups each containing eight samples. These specimens were tested longitudinally to identify mechanical properties.
The tensile test results showed that there is not a significant difference between the groups in terms of stiffness, elastic modulus, strain at ultimate stress, failure strain and effective plastic strain. However, the yield stress, ultimate stress, yield strain, failure stress and total energy and post-yield properties are significantly lower in F10 than MLS and FF groups.
It is observed that the mechanical properties of MLS preserved and FF parietal bones have almost similar properties. Thus, it can be concluded that MLS is a suitable fixative solution for bone studies and bone-related surgical anatomy training applications.
